Where We Pick Up Furniture Around Boston
Most of what leaves Greater Boston with us is a partial move. The pieces worth keeping go, and the rest is sold, donated or left for the next tenant. Pickups cover the city’s own neighborhoods and the towns just outside it.
- In the city: Charlestown, the North End, the South End, Fenway, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, West Roxbury, Brighton and East Boston
- Close in: Arlington, Belmont, Watertown, Medford and Milton
What People Ship Out of Boston
- Heirlooms from a family house being cleared out, often crated for the trip
- Antiques from the Charles Street shops and estate-sale finds headed to a new home in another state
- A desk, bookcases and boxes when a hospital residency or research post in the Longwood Medical Area ends
- A bed, dresser and nightstands for a grown child’s first apartment out of state
- Dining tables, hutches and china cabinets too heavy for the back of a car
Getting Furniture Out of Boston Buildings
Row houses and brownstones in the South End and Charlestown often have steep, narrow stairs with a tight turn at every landing. Measure your largest piece and the narrowest turn before you book, and tell us which floor it is on. Walk-up and limited-access pickups are built into the estimate when we know about them up front.
Condo associations in converted buildings and newer towers usually set move hours and ask for elevator pads. Get the move-out rules from your property manager early, then call (866) 333-8018 to check access at your building before you book.
Curb space is the other constraint. Much of Boston is resident-permit parking, and the truck may have to stop well short of your door. Mention a long carry when you book so it goes into the estimate.
Timing Your Pickup Around the Boston Calendar
If your lease ends August 31, book by mid August. A large share of Boston leases turn over on September 1, and the days around it are the hardest time of year to find curb space and elevator slots. Late June brings a smaller wave as hospital residencies and academic appointments change hands.
From December to March, a declared snow emergency bans parking on posted arteries. If you live on one, keep a backup pickup date in mind. Because packing happens on-site, your pieces cross the sidewalk already wrapped instead of exposed to slush.
