Retirees selling a larger home in one of the valley’s 55-plus communities usually keep a short list: a recliner, a curio cabinet, the good dishes, photo albums and a few framed pieces.

Planning Your Small Move Pickup in Las Vegas

Most valley pickups are simpler than in older cities: wide streets, driveways and plenty of single-story stucco homes where the garage is the natural loading point. What slows a pickup down here is gates, association rules and the calendar, so mention them when you book.

Gated Apartment Complexes

Many valley apartment complexes put every building behind a vehicle gate with a call box, and a truck cannot reach your door without a code or an escort from the leasing office. Send the gate code or the office contact with your booking, and ask the office whether it limits move hours or wants notice for a moving truck.

The Three Sun City Communities

Sun City Summerlin is in the City of Las Vegas, Sun City Anthem is in Henderson and Sun City Aliante is in North Las Vegas. That is three cities and three associations, about 25 miles apart, so give us the full street address rather than “Sun City”. If your community has a staffed gate, register the pickup with it ahead of time.

Private Streets in Master-Planned Communities

Under Nevada’s HOA law (NRS 116.350), an association cannot regulate public streets but may set reasonable rules for commercial vehicles on its private streets and common areas. Southern Highlands, for example, permits commercial vehicles while they are loading or unloading. If your street is private, read the rules before you pick a date.

Towers on and Near the Strip

High-rise move rules are set building by building, and they are strict. Veer Towers requires moves to be scheduled with management at least a week ahead, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and never on Sundays or holidays. Event Weeks and Summer Dates

Some weeks are harder on trucks than others. The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix in November brings weeks of lane closures around the Strip, New Year’s Eve closes the Strip to cars, and large conventions such as CES in January crowd the roads near the Convention Center. If you live near the resort corridor, choose a date outside those weeks.

Summer is both the busiest season and the hottest one, with average highs near 99°F in June and 103°F in August. Pickup is scheduled 2 to 10 business days after booking, so reserve at least 10 days ahead for a June or July date. Same-week pickup is often possible, though extra fees may apply.

Moving to Las Vegas With a Small Load
